El Hadji Diouf

EPAs and Regionalism Programme Manager

Dr El Hadji DIOUF is Manager for ICTSD’s Economic Partnership Agreements (EPA) and Regionalism Programme. Prior to joining ICTSD, he worked for several NGOs in Geneva on human rights issues, participating intensively for tree years at the UN Sub-commission on human rights. Later, he joined the law firm Suter et Associés in Geneva working on WTO issues, before spending a short period at the WTO’s Legal Division. Diouf has been working for ICTSD since July 2002.

Dr Diouf holds a PhD in law from the University of Bern, Switzerland. His thesis focused on special and differential treatment and agriculture, identifying tools to give more flexibilities to African countries in the international trade system. He obtained a Masters in International Economic Law from the University of Geneva and a Maîtrise de Droit Public from the University of St Louis, Senegal. He also holds a Masters in Communication and Media Sciences from the University of Geneva.

Current areas of work and research include among others: development issues in international trade, agriculture, cotton, legal issues in international trade (WTO, EPA and Regional integration), article XXIV of GATT, GSP and bilateral agreements within Africa. Dr Diouf is a citizen of Senegal.
