The International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD), an independent non-profit and non-governmental organization contributing to a better understanding of development and environment concerns in the context of international trade, seeks to recruit a competent professional to fill the following position:
 
Intellectual Property Programme Officer
 
The goal of this position is to assist with the implementation of projects under the ICTSD Programme on Intellectual Property and Sustainable Development. The main responsibilities are associated with the implementation of the intellectual property programme, programme coordination, communications and publications, outreach and networking, and project development, including assistance to develop funding proposals, preparation of budgets, organisation of meeting and website updating.
 
The post requires:  a Master Degree in international law, economics, political science or science policy, broad understanding of WTOIWIPO and issues related to intellectual property and sustainable development, including public health and climate change, as well as strong organization skills, and a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
 
This post will be a full-time position initially for one year, with possibility of renewal depending on funding availability

Deputy Finance Manager/Project Accountant

The objective of the position is to promote the long term financial viability of ICTSD by acting as a deputy to the current Finance Manager, producing high quality and timely financial information for internal and external constituencies, as well as managing project and donor reporting and taking responsibility for day to day financial management.  The post requires a highly qualified accounting and finance professional, with at least 5-10 years of progressively increasing responsibility. Experience in accounting for small businesses, projects and NGOs; ability to develop, format, prepare and present logical financial reports and consistently meet reporting deadlines; strong skills with computers especially with project and cost accounting systems and especially strong spreadsheets skills; word processing and database skills would be advantageous.

The Advisor will develop and deliver, in conjunction with relevant ICTSD staff, a strategy for Trade and Climate Change within the context of the UNFCCC up to, during, and after the UNFCCC Convention of the Parties in Copenhagen, Denmark (December 2009). 

The candidate for this position should possess the following abilities:

• Advanced degree in law, political science, international relations, international public policy and/or other related field;
• Minimum eight years professional experience at the international level, with at least four in project-management level positions;
• Experience with the international negotiations on climate change, preferably at the policy-making and/or technical levels;
• In depth knowledge of the UNFCCC, its negotiations, and the parties involved;
• Ability to work independently as well as within a group and demonstrated capacity to develop and deliver on strategic work involving numerous players and collaborators;
• Excellent writing skills, including the ability to express complex concepts in language accessible to non-specialist audiences;
• Excellent organisational skills and ability to work in parallel on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines;
• Excellent knowledge of English and good knowledge of either French or Spanish;
• Ability to work independently and take initiative; and,
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment, with highly diverse external audiences and as part of a team.

This is a full time fixed one year term position, extendable subject to funding availability.
