Tropical Products: A Forward Looking Agenda

The Dialogue on Tropical Products, Trade, Natural Resource Management and Poverty
organized by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (ICTSD)
and the Institute for International Trade Negotiations (ICONE) at Salvador (Bahia),
Brazil from 3-5 December 2007 resulted in the identification of possible elements for
future action by different interested stakeholders, as well as potential areas for further
research or consolidation of information previously produced.

As was made clear in the dialogue, the elements for future action and the areas for research are not intended to be exhaustive nor definitive, in the sense that neither the organizers nor the participants prescribe that these should necessarily be the sole parameters of the future agenda on the issue of tropical products.

Indeed, some of the suggestions may already be the subject of
pre-existing efforts or be perceived as unfeasible. Nonetheless, the suggestions may
prove valuable in providing insights and guidance to different stakeholders as they chart
their respective agendas and the future course of debate and action on tropical products,
trade, natural resource management and poverty.
