Increasing efficient in the generation and consumption of energy is an essential part of responses to the twin challenges of climate change and energy security. In order to enhance energy efficiency, countries are currently using multiple tools, including different sets of energy standards. ICTSD’s programme on trade and climate change is considering different options within this area, with a focus on international standards that also would facilitate trade and the diffusion of technologies between countries.
